Nice, very nice, Joe using the anger to hide his pain, and Ken just determined to push them all on, some things never change, lol.
Author's Response: Yup - nice to know that even as kids they were like that. I'm glad you enjoyed this.

Nicely done! Everyone reacts in a way that is in line with characterizations. I like the idea of pain dimishing with use....just wondering when it stopped hurting....or does it?
Author's Response: I'm glad you liked it. I figure it never really stops hurting - but they then use that hurt and the adrenaline it would give to help do what they do.

Very nice. Very good characterizations. I noticed that you didn't put an age on them, but from Joe's language would 11/12 be an accurate guess for him and Ken?
Author's Response: Yeah - I figured 11 or 12 for this at the first time - so that they could become used to it and start their serious training in birdstyle. I imagine tht they got their "real" weapons (as opposed to replicas for training) shortly afterwards.

A very interesting take on the transformation process, but one that fits so well, and you've depicted Ken and Joe so clearly, with few words.
Now I'm wondering what it'll be like when they do the firebird for the first time...
Author's Response: Oooohhh - I hadn't even thought of that - and that's obviously a very painful and stresful experience!

So touching, so full of emotion! Great work, Maddy! You've managed to describe beautifully the pain that everyone was feeling in the inside and on the outside ... as a team ... as a family!
Author's Response: Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
