I decided to re-read this when it came up in random stories, and see that I neglected to comment the first time. Shame on me! Ken's mother is often an object of fascination since so little is said about her, but what is said in canon is so sad. I like that you've made her intelligent and capable and not as much of a victim in this as some, given that she does know that Kentaro's alive, and is definitely no lovesick, love-blind fool. What a terrible situation to be in, trying to raise her son alone, realizing she's sick and probably dying, while also trying to protect Ken from the repeated disappointments of his father not returning while also being strung along by gifts. I have the feeling if this Saryui was alive when Ken first starts dealing with Red Impulse she might personally deliver some painful lessons to him on his attitude toward their son. :)

Good on Nambu for rolling with the punches and doing what needed to be done, given his own involvement with the situation.

A beautiful story. Very well done and also gives an alternative to what cost Ken his mother as well as his father.

You showed Ken's hopes about his father very well. I like fics about his mother and what she may have been like.

You showed that she was protective of Ken from the truth of his fathers "death" and there may have been reasons.

I wonder if he overheard the conversation she had with Dr Nambu....

A good twist that she knew he was alive, that could have fed Ken's subconcious mind about his reasons for never believeing his fathers death.

(You have the same idea as me, she doesn't entirely trust Dr Nambu in everything)

Anyway, I'm not into analizing of a of a story I just wanted you to know that I liked it!

Cheers
