Author's Chapter Notes:

I was reading about Batman the other day and realized that he and Joe have a few things in common. Most of my impressions of Batman come from Warner Bros. animated series and most of my Gatchaman impressions come from Turner's G-Force and what I've read on web sites.

This is during Gatch II.

For those of you who aren't familiar with Batman:  He saw his parents gunned down by a mugger when he was about 8-10.  The Robin I'm using is about 18-20.

MIRROR By Candi

Two children. Two lives. Twin souls devastated. Twin hearts crying. The Condor The Batman. Different? Or the same?

-------------------------------------------------

Galactor Base

Joe raced through the door, shurikens spearing any Galactor that didn't get away fast enough, his guns taking care of the rest. Over his wristband, he heard Swan and Swallow reporting the explosives were set, Owl confirming he was standing by, Eagle... Wait a minute...

"Ken?"

"Come in!"

"Cough Hac-k-k"

"Ken!"

"I'm in a storeroom...Some large cans fell. I need-"

"Roger!"

Run, trace his signal, find him before the bombs blow, yell for the others to clear out, he'd handle this.

---------------------------------------------------

Riddler's Hideout

Crunch. Crack.

Black Cape Swirling.

Guns aim for the bat symbol, but never fire.

Crash from far below.

"Robin!"

"Some of the props fell..."

"I'm coming!" Run, fly down the stairs, knock out the goons on the way, get to him before someone else does.

---------------------------------------------------

Ken, half-buried.

"J-Joe?"

"I'm here!"

Pull at the cans, holler that the others better be out of there, thank the powers-that-be that he'd had a fresh recharge that day.

Ask if he's hurt.

"Not sure...think a rib might...be cracked. Th-there's...blood dri-pping from m-my..."

"Ken!"

"...l-left leg."

"Don't talk anymore. Save your strength."

---------------------------------------------------

Robin, under a mass of stage supplies.

"B-Batman?"

"I'm here."

Pull at the metal props, try to go faster, try to watch your back while getting them off fast.

"Are you hurt?"

"My right leg feels broken...There's blood coming...from...somewhere..."

"Don't talk anymore. Save your strength."

----------------------------------------------------

What chance, what random direction of the cosmos caused the thinning of the walls, the near-rupture of the membranes separating the worlds?

--------------------------------------------------

The Condor looked up, froze.

The Batman looked up, stiffened.

As though through a haze, Joe saw a dark shape, formed like both a bat and a man. It seemed to be halted in the middle of uncovering a teenager in a costume and mask, who was buried under a pile of props.

Just like the way the Eagle was buried under the cans.

Through a bright mist, Batman saw a young man, maybe a few years older than Robin, in a dark, blood-red and indigo-blue bird suit, in the semblance of a fierce raptor. He was rigid by a pile of cans, under which was buried another young man in a white and blue raptor-suit.

Buried just like Robin was under the props.

----------------------------------------------------

The Batman suddenly started, and quickly looked behind him.

It was Batgirl.

"Here, let me help you."

Batman grunted, looked back at the wall.

Solid.

Turned again.

"Let's get him back to the cave."

---------------------------------------------------

The Condor started, and whirled.

It was the Swan.

"Here, let me help you."

Joe growled, looked back at the wall.

Nothing.

Looked at Jun.

"Let's get him back to base."

--------------------------------------------------

Two warriors.

Two lives.

Two souls fighting for revenge.

Twin hearts raging.

Batman.

Condor.

What do you think?

Chapter End Notes:
Did I mention that I didn't do the summary for this? But I love it. :-)
