The ending is very sweet! They've all been through so much throughout this series, I like that you didn't handwave the psychological damage away for her, but allowed it to slowly improve over time as a testament to both her own strength and the strength of her support system. I have to admit that I wondered just how natural her miscarriage was, or if the Chief made sure it would happen through drugs or the implant itself. :P But my mind works in twisted ways.

I can see Mark being so emotionally strung out, exhausted, and naive that he could be confused about whether she had given herself willingly to Zoltar, especially with the Chief pushing his buttons as he revealed the pregnancy. It's another manifestation of his self-loathing over not having told her how he felt earlier, that he could lose her in that way.

Yeesh, am I writing a book or what? Enjoyed the series, well done. :)

Author's Response:

I felt like the Chief was being manipulative, not to mention distrustful of Princess, given her situation, and that he could easily take advantage of a naive Mark to push his own agenda. As to Mark's reaction... he's always been supportive of the Chief, but for the first time hw was realizing that perhaps the Chief's interest are with the safety of the Federation as a whole, and not with Mark as an individual. Anyhow, that's what I was thinking. ;-)

I was debating reasons for the miscarriage, but in the end, I think serious malnutrition and physical stress were enough. Many pregancies have ended because of less.

I see trouble ahead!

Oh and I can't give up on a Swan/Eagle paring that easily. While the imprisonment would have changed Princess dramatically, I get the feeling returning home is what kept her going.

I'm so glad you decided to continue this story. Just a note, it's not linked to the Trials series making it hard to find if you really, really want to know how the whole imprisonment affects the Mark/Princess dynamic.

Author's Response: Good point! I've been in a fuddle lately. Off to link!

I read both piece in one day.  The only disappointing part - no third story.  I could have sworn I saw the start of it!

I agree, there's so much emotional material for the Princess/Mark reunion.  I see angst ahead as they both come to terms with what's happened.

Author's Response: And I apologize for taking so long, but the next fic iis up! That's my fault for being slow. I had it written ages ago but never had the chance to sit down and properly edit.

I found this to be an interesting story that was engaging and thoughtful. The technology descriptions reminded me that their technology is advanced rather than it being just another prison. The insight into your universe and Spectra society is also interesting. For me I found it odd that Princess thought Mark would reject her after her ordeal. To me that doesn't seem likely, but perhaps this will be resolved in part 3. :)

Author's Response:

Whether or not it is likely, you have to consider the 'conditions' Princess is being subjected to. She's still very young and never really had a real relationship, so she has no 'experience' in these matters. Add to that the ohysical, mental and emotional stress she's under just as part of her daily life, and adding to that the attacks on her person she has undergone... she's not necessarily thinking with the clearest head.

As for what happens when she gets back... yes, that is the last fic in the trilogy, which will be posted soon.

I loved it when I read it in Bird Scramble, and I'm loving it now! It's one of the most emotional fics I've read.

Author's Response: I'm glad it encouoraged an emootional response. I really wanted to show what Princess was goiung through, not just physically, but emotionally as well.

Excellent, as always, TJ! Angst and suspense, and a leading role for Princess! What more could we want?

Author's Response: Well I won't answer what else you could want... because then you'll demand it for the next part, right? ;-)

Chapter 7 and 8 are the saying the same thing. Chapter 7. There is no chapter 8. Good story. Can't wait for part 2.

Author's Response: Thanks! I'll fix it!
