I really enjoyed this. I like that Princess knew she was to blame (at least in part) for Mark being with someone else, in that she'd never fully stated her feelings. I get tired of everyone laying it on Mark and Ken all the time not to take the hints. :) And you've used Zark, Susan, and 1Rover1 here really well.

Very curious to see where you're taking this. I expect at any time Zark to be showing off lots of trial plans for artifical wombs, heh.

Author's Response:

This is definitely a different Princess, in some ways. In some ways not.

Zark. Glad you enjoyed the return of the robots of BotP. And, oh yes. He can design almost anything, right? I'm sure he's still secretly designing away. Somehow, I think Princess knows it, too! :P

I have plans for the whole crew in a later story. Just need to have the time to write them all out. It was fun to tell this story from an alternate-universe Princess's POV and voice.

First Keya instead of Keyop, in an open realtionship with Mark, then bam! The end of civilization. Now that's a twist!

Author's Response: Well, I didn't want to tell a boring story about a simple day.

This should win a prize for most understated title. :)  Let me start from the end: it took me quite a while to accept that it really was so, that everyone and every bit of intelligent life had truly been extripriated from the inhabited worlds. I'm desperate to see what happens next.

A world where the last remnants of civilization are maintained by disoriented robots while the sole person tries to make sense of what to do next is both heart-breaking and fascinating. The language is sparse, maybe a bit too sparse in places.  I found myself starved for moe descriptions like the gritty wind that blew through the cities, with its load of ash.

Ending at the beginning,  I'd been less than pleased at the team interaction -- not through a fault of the writing, but for what it said about the way the team has broken up into a clique-ish, inhomogenous grouping of people.  Then again, considering what happens to them -- all is forgiven.

In short. MORE! Please? :)

Author's Response:

As I mentioned in chat, there is more. At least 13 stories in this little series. Now, if it will be anything like you expect is another matter. :P

The title was a hard one to come up with, but eventually I took it from something Princess said in the first few paragraphs. Odd how some titles come easily and some do not. As for the team, well, this was an alternate universe. So, history evolved a little differently. By changing around a few character traits, personalities, and such, I hoped to emphasize that. :)

Glad you liked it!
